Ding Yanyong Biography:
Ding Yanyong (1902-1978; Chinese name 丁衍庸), born in Maoming County, Guangzhou Province, was a Chinese painter and art educator who was good at oil painting, traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy. He was one of the vital advocator of contemporary Chinese Art and held many solo exhibitions at home and abroad. He began to teach traditional Chinese painting at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and also held the additional post of dean of the Art Department in Tsinghua Academy. Ding Yanyong Memorial exhibitions were held in Hong Kong for several times after his death and there is an art award entitled with his name. His traditional Chinese painting “Crane in the Wait for Flight” was sold for 9.04 million Hong Kong dollars (1.17 million US dollars) at the 2013 Spring Auctions of Hong Kong Sotheby and his “Red Lady” was sold for 6.68 million Hong Kong dollars in 2016.
Ding Yanyong's Representative Works Exhibitions:
In 1970s, he held exhibitions of paintings and calligraphies in France. Seals of Ding Yanyong’s Paintings and Calligraphies and Ding Yanyong’s painting Collection were published by Paris Diderot University. In 1974, he was invited to attend the contemporary Chinese painting and calligraphy exhibition co-hosted by the Art Department of New Asia College, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Yale-China Association.
In 1975, his solo exhibition was held at the East & West Art Gallery in Melbourne, Australia.
In 1977, Exhibition of Ding Yanyong’s painting was co-hosted by Taipei Longmen Art Projects and Artists magazine.
