Edward Weston Biography:

Edward Henry Weston, 1886 – 1958, was a 20th-century American photographer and a prolific writer, was the first photographer to receive a Guggenheim Fellowship. He has been called "one of the most innovative and influential American photographers…" and "one of the masters of 20th century photography." After his death in 1958, his sons scattered his ashes into the Pacific Ocean at Pebbly Beach where was later renamed Weston Beach. 

As of 2013, two of Weston's photographs feature among the most expensive photographs ever sold. A nude taken in 1925 was bought by the gallerist Peter MacGill for $1.6 million in 2008. Nautilus of 1927 was sold for $1.1 million in 2010, also to MacGill.

Edward Weston's Representative Works Exhibitions:
In 1946, Weston's major retrospective opened at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
In 1950 a major retrospective of Weston works at the Musee National d'Art Moderne in Paris.
In 1956, the Smithsonian Institution displayed nearly 100 of Weston prints at a major exhibit, “The World of Edward Weston”, paying tribute to his accomplishments in American photography.
