‘Le Rêve’ was Picasso’s most personal and risqué work in his portfolio, and with such a huge piece of his soul bare on canvas it sold for over $150 million dollars. The Picasso painting features a then 22 year Marie-Thérèse Walter, who at the time was his mistress. Figuratively adding a piece of himself to the painting is what made it so popular, and was symbolic enough that it raised eyebrows across many art communities. The beauty in the painting comes from its incredible provocative nature, one that is hard to capture without toeing the lines.
