Zeng Fanzhi Biography:

Zeng Fanzhi (1964- ; Chinese name 曾梵志), a Chinese painter born in the city of Wuhan, Hubei Province, was considered to be one of the most representative contemporary artists who have international influence.

His works were displayed at a series of important international art events and impressed the audiences with the expressionist techniques of metaphor and symbol, featuring masks. More than 50 thousand audiences were attracted to a retrospective exhibition of Zeng’s paintings held at Musée d'Art moderne de la Ville de Paris in 2014. The portrait of his classmate “A Man in Melancholy”, created when he was a junior student, was sold for 500 RMB in 1992. 19 years later, he bought this portrait back with a high price—over 10 million RMB, which becomes an interesting tale.

Zeng Fanzhi's 2001 oil painting on canvas “The Last Supper” was sold for 180 million Hong Kong dollars (23 million US dollars) in 2013, which is the most expensive contemporary artwork in Asia.

Zeng Fanzhi's Representative Works Exhibitions:
In 1993, the Hanart Gallery in Hong Kong held his solo exhibition entitled “Mask: Zeng Zhifan’s Oil Paintings”.
