In 1917 Leopold Zborowski, a Polish-born poet-turned-art dealer, provided the impoverished Amedeo Modigliani with a space in his apartment in which to work, as well as art supplies, models, and a daily stipend. While ensconced in Zborowski's home and at his request, Modigliani embarked on an ambitious series of just over two dozen female nudes.
