A Difference of Opinion Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema Date: 1896 Style: Romanticism Genre: genre painting Media: oil, canvas Dimensions: 38.1 x 22.86 cm Location: Private Collection
The lovers’ tiff was a popular nineteenth-century theme suitable for depiction in any historical theme or setting, whether ancient or medieval, eighteenth century or modern. This work is a little unusual for Alma-Tadema in the amount of personal emotion shown by the male suitor as he tries to convince his lady of some proposition. The bronze statue of the cherub with the goose is from the Museo Nationale in Naples.
